OUR HISTORY

Century Calibrating Company was founded in 1969 by the owners of AH and S Construction Corporation (AHS). AHS (Agee, Holladay & Shadduck) is a pipeline construction company based in Signal Hill and operates in the Southern California area.

Hancock Oil Company was in need of meter proving services and guarantied six meters a month, if AHS would purchase a prover. AHS purchased their first used 6” prover in 1963. As business increased and the size of meters increased, in 1965 AHS built a 12” prover. Later Century Calibrating Company was formed and became responsible for the hydro static testing and meter proving services. In 1972, Century built their own building in Signal Hill and in the following year built their first 24” prover. A second location was opened in 1978 to service customers in the Bakersfield area.

Our provers are accurate to one ten-thousandth (0.0001) of a barrel or within a half-ounce (+/- 0.5376 oz. on a 42-gallon barrel). Century’s original 6” prover is still in service and all the provers are certified bi-annually.

Currently the proving fleet consists of 11 provers:

• 2 – 6” Provers

• 2 – 8” Provers

• 3 – 12” Provers

• 2 – 24” Provers

Century has been hydro statically testing pipelines since its inception and before the California State Fire Marshall established standards. Century is one of 27 approved hydro static testing companies in California. (See Approved Hydrostatic Testing Companies http://osfm.fire.ca.gov) The California State Fire Marshall has used Century’s test documentation as “best practice” examples at several conferences.
